It’s not good to spend a lot of time looking at screens, especially close to bedtime. The blue light that’s usually emitted by most displays can affect the body’s circadian rhythm. It can cause you to have trouble sleeping. One of the most effective ones involves making the display warmer, to better protect your eyes. Some call it to night mode, others call it night shift. Blue light hurts your sleep, so staring at screens just before you go to bed is a bad idea unless you filter the light. Apple has a readily available Night Shift mode, but on Android, the feature is more hidden and only available on Nougat. To find it pull down the quick menu from the top and tap and hold the cog in the top right-hand corner until it spins. A message will pop up saying you’ve activated the System UI Tuner. Once you have done this, download the Night Mode Enabler app from Google Play, open it and tap Enable Night Mode. Then head to System UI Tuner in Settings and you will be able to turn Night mode on and off, as well as set it to come on automatically.
How to Turn on Night Mode on iOS
Since iOS 9.3, blue-light reduction has been available as a system feature. You can find it in Settings > Display & Brightness > Night Shift.
Here you can set the schedule for it, and adjust the color temperature to increase or decrease the warmth of the display.
You can also toggle it from the Control Centre. Swipe up from the bottom of your screen, and tap on Night Shift.
Or ask Siri for help. Say “turn on Night Shift”, or “turn off Night Shift” to control it.
